About the Author

Kinara Phillips was born in Chicago, IL in 2002. A creative child, she picked up guitar at an early age, and sang in her church’s choir for many years. She moved to DC in 2022 to pursue her bachelor’s degree at Howard University. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Afro American Studies in 2025. Kinara presented research on black maternal health care her senior year at Howard University to the Annual Research Symposium. She plans to return to Howard University in pursuit of a Master in Social Work.
